Softball Drops Both Games of Thursday Road Doubleheader at No. 13 West Chester

SU falls 5-0 and 10-1 to the Golden Rams, who sweep season series

The Shippensburg University softball team traveled to No. 13 West Chester on Thursday for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader with the Golden Rams, but the Raiders dropped both games by scores of 5-0 and 10-1 (five innings) from the WCU Softball Field.

Shippensburg (16-25, 3-11 PSAC East) totaled seven hits on the day, including five in Game 2. In Game 1, freshman Megan Hevey broke up a no-hitter with a one-out single in the fifth inning, while senior Taylor Pattillo singled in the sixth inning. Pattillo reached base in all three Game 1 plate appearances, drawing a pair of walks.

Freshman Maddie Schafer produced SU's RBI in Game 2. Schafer singled home sophomore Chloe Collins in the fourth inning, as the Raiders loaded the bases with one out.

SU struggled defensively on the day, committing six errors in the doubleheader.

West Chester (45-5, 12-2), the PSAC's top-hitting team with a .339 batting average, totaled 23 hits on the day. The Golden Rams have totaled 135 extra-base hits this season, including eight on Thursday.

Shippensburg will conclude its regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday for a Senior Day doubleheader with East Stroudsburg from Robb Field. Between games, SU will recognize senior Briana Giovenco and Pattillo along with former players Taylor Llewellyn and Quincy Lewis. The team will also recognize sophomore Eryn Caragein, who is transferring from Shippensburg to a new school in order to complete her desired academic major.
