SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University softball team held its annual "Strike Out Cancer" event on a chilly Sunday against division rival Kutztown, but the Raiders dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader to the Golden Bears by scores of 5-0 and 6-1 from Robb Field.
Shippensburg (12-21, 2-8 PSAC East) could not solve Kutztown (24-10, 7-3) pitcher Savannah Nierintz, who threw 12 shutout innings with 13 strikeouts in winning both games. Nierintz threw a complete-game shutout in the opener and entered in relief in Game 2.

Collins threw a complete game in the opener, allowing five runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Wilson returned to the circle in Game 2, throwing three innings in a no-decision. She allowed a run on four hits and struck out two. Freshman
Nicole Smith threw the final four innings of Game 2, allowing three earned runs.
Shippensburg returns to action at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader with IUP. The doubleheader was re-scheduled for Wednesday after originally being postponed on March 19.
