The Shippensburg University field hockey team, the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Region, will face Millersville, the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region, in the 2016 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Semifinals at 2 p.m. Friday from W. B. Mason Stadium on the campus of Stonehill (Mass.) University.

The winner will advance to the NCAA Division II Field Hockey National Championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday against either LIU Post or Saint Anselm -- the Top 2 seeds from the East Region.

All three games of the tournament will be streamed live online; SU's games are linked above for both video and statistics.

SEMIFINALS:
The last time Shippensburg reached the national semifinals was in its championship season of 2013. Ironically, Shippensburg faced Millersville that year in the semifinals -- a 3-1 win for the Raiders in Virginia Beach. SU then defeated LIU Post in the final, 2-1 in overtime, to win the title.

Shippensburg and Millersville have an outstanding rivalry. The two teams have split this season's series, with the Marauders' last game being their 2-1 triumph over the Raiders in the PSAC Championship game. SU won the regular-season meeting, 1-0 at Millersville.

Since the teams' respective senior classes began play in 2013, Millersville has worked to a 6-3 series edge:
2016: Ville 2, Ship 1 (PSAC Championship)
2016: Ship 1, at Ville 0 (regular season)
2015: Ville 1, at Ship 0 (OT) (regular season)
2014: Ville 1, at Ship 0 (regular season)
2014: Ville 2, Ship 0 (PSAC Semifinals)
2014: at Ville 2, Ship 1 (2OT) (NCAA Quarterfinals)
2013: Ship 3, Ville 1 (NCAA Semifinals)
2013: Ville 1, at Ship 0 (PSAC Championship)
2013: at Ship 1, Ville 0 (OT) (regular season)

Five of these nine meetings have been 1-0 games, and only two of the nine have been decided by more than one goal. Additionally, SU is facing Millersville for the third straight time it has reached the NCAA Championships tournament.
