Women’s Soccer Ends Regular Season With 2-2 Draw at IUP

SU, eliminated from postseason contention, got goals from Patterson, Hartner

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team completed its regular season on Saturday and played to a 2-2 draw against IUP in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.

Shippensburg (10-7-1, 8-7-1 PSAC) ultimately needed a win over IUP (9-8-1, 8-7-1) to clinch a berth in the PSAC Tournament. The tie resulted in both teams having 25 standings points, but the Crimson Hawks holding the tiebreaker by virtue of a victory earlier this week over PSAC No. 3 seed Edinboro (the PSAC's second step in a head-to-head tiebreaking procedure are the results against conference teams not involved in a tie, starting at the top of the standings.)

SU still had one more chance to qualify but had to wait for the result of the 7 p.m. match involving Bloomsburg and Clarion. With the Huskies winning 2-1 over the Golden Eagles, Bloomsburg (8-6-2 PSAC [26 points]) leap-frogged both teams to claim the league's No. 7 seed, leaving IUP the No. 8 seed and the Raiders one spot short.

Shippensburg got goals from junior Mallory Patterson and junior Kat Hartner in the draw.

IUP got off to a quick start with a goal from Brandie Bryant in the third minute. The Raiders responded just 12 minutes later when Patterson scored her first goal of the season off a free kick.

Shippensburg took the lead in the 32nd minute on Hartner's second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Tori Mills. IUP would find the equalizer in the 40th minute to keep the scored tied at two heading into halftime.

Shippensburg and IUP would exchange multiple chances throughout the second half and both overtimes, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Redshirt-junior goalkeeper Leah Roy recorded 10 saves on the afternoon.
