The Shippensburg University field hockey team got goals on Sunday from juniors
Cassie Rawa and
Katelyn Grazan and four saves from senior goalkeeper
Taylor Webster as the Raiders defeated Southern Connecticut State, 2-0, at the 2015 Doubletree Classic hosted by Saint Michael's College.
Â
Shippensburg (2-0) held the territorial edge in the contest, out-shooting Southern Connecticut State (1-1) by a 31-7 margin and recording a 17-6 advantage in penalty corners. The Owls stayed in the game thanks to the work of goalkeeper Audrey Dolloff, who made 20 saves (14 in the first half).
Â
Rawa scored her second goal in as many days to put the Raiders on the scoreboard at 27:15. She grabbed the rebound off her initial shot and caged it into the back of the goal.
Â
With 14 minutes to play, Grazan scored her first goal of the season after finishing a cross from sophomore
Emily Barnard.
Â
Webster posted her fourth shutout over her last five starts dating back to last season.
Â
No. 4 Shippensburg and No. 2 West Chester will go toe-to-toe at 3 p.m. Wednesday in a non-conference matchup at Robb Sports Complex. It is SU's home opener.Â
