SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team made its first seven shots of the game Wednesday night and jumped out to a 17-2 lead, as five Raiders posted double figures in an 88-70 victory over Cheyney to cap off the regular season inside Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (18-10, 14-8 PSAC) made 10 of its first 12 shots and scored 51 points in the opening half. The team shot 33-of-62 from the field for the game. The 53.2 field-goal percentage is the second-highest for SU this season.
Sophomore
Logan Snyder tied her career high with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and went 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Cheyney (4-23, 4-18) shot consistently well throughout the contest, sinking 29-of-58 (50 percent) from the field and 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from three-point range.
Junior
Stephanie Knauer totaled 18 points and four rebounds while sophomore
Colleen Young finished with 17 points, four assists and four steals.
The Raiders tallied an impressive 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio with 16 assists and eight turnovers (second lowest of the season). SU held a 36-28 advantage on the glass and never trailed in the game.
Sophomore
Lauren Gold totaled 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Redshirt-freshman
Victoria Blackburn scored 10 points and pulled down three boards. Sophomore
Morgan Griffith had five points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Shippensburg, the No. 3 seed in the PSAC, will host No.6-seeded East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. from inside Heiges Field House.
