SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team put up 29 points in both the first and fourth quarters on Wednesday night, establishing a 24-point halftime advantage in posting a lopsided victory over regional rival Shepherd, 96-56, inside Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (10-2) allowed the opening bucket to Shepherd (2-8) and then countered with 16 consecutive points. SU led 29-14 after the first quarter and 53-29 at halftime en route to producing a season high in points. The Raiders also posted 50 points in the paint and scored 26 points off 21 Ram turnovers.
Junior
Morgan Griffith led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-11 shootings. Griffith added nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 26 minutes. Fellow junior
Logan Snyder had 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists while junior
Colleen Young scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Sophomore guard
Victoria Blackburn, making her first collegiate start, scored a season-high 12 points and matched a career high with six assists while playing just 18 minutes. Blackburn was 5-of-10 from the field and finished one point shy of her career high. Junior
Lauren Gold provided three points, four assists and four steals.

Kristin McGeough had seven points and a career-high eight rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Sophomore

Nicole Thuemmel hit the game's final jumper for her first collegiate points.
Shepherd won last year's meeting, 94-82, as part of a 22-win campaign that included a victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. On Wednesday, the Rams shot 34 percent from the field and were led offensively by Liz Myers and Morgan Arden. Both women scored 14 points.
Shippensburg returns to PSAC play at 1 p.m. Sunday when it hosts Clarion inside Heiges Field House.
