Women’s Basketball Surges in Second Half to Drop Mansfield, 77-56

SU outscores Mounties 48-29 in final 20 minutes, as all five starters post double figures

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had all five starters post double figures Wednesday night and out-scored host Mansfield 48-29 in the second half en route to a convincing 77-56 victory over the Mountaineers in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Decker Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (8-2, 5-2 PSAC) held a 29-27 halftime lead but never trailed after the first three minutes of play. SU closed the third quarter on a 16-2 run to take control, leading by 17 points after three quarters.

Wednesday's victory marked SU's 15th consecutive win over Mansfield, and also the fourth straight game in which all five Raider starters reached double digits against the Mountaineers. Junior Logan Snyder, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, had a team-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She also had five rebounds and two assists.

Junior Colleen Young had 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, with three rebounds and two assists. Fellow junior Haley Scullion had 10 points and four steals, while junior Lauren Gold had 10 points, four assists and three steals.

Despite missing the second quarter due to foul trouble, junior Morgan Griffith finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.

SU continued to get contributions from its bench. Sophomore Kristin McGeough made all three of her field-goal attempts and finished with seven points. Sophomore Victoria Blackburn was exceptional on both ends of the floor, handing out four assists, grabbing three rebounds and recording two steals.

Shippensburg shot 61 percent from the field in the second half to overcome a mediocre 11-of-19 (58 percent) effort at the free-throw line. SU's 13 steals tied a season high set against Davis & Elkins in Game 2.

The Raiders scored 27 points off 24 Mansfield turnovers, and finished with a team-high 22 assists despite no single player having more than four in the game. Freshman Gabriela Blackburn had three assists off the bench, and all five starters finished with multiple assists.

Wednesday marked the sixth straight game that SU has had a positive or even assist-to-turnover ratio.

Shippensburg is back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Kutztown in a conference showdown at Heiges Field House. It is SU's last game before the holiday break. Live coverage of the game will be available on SU's MixLR channel
