SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg men's basketball team recorded its second win in as many nights Saturday with an aggressive and efficient effort that led to a 85-62 victory over Nyack in the finale of the 2015 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (2-0) was able to keep its distance from Nyack for most of the night by shooting 49.2 percent from the field. The Raiders also knocked down 7-of-19 three-point tries.
Leading the way was freshman
Antonio Kellem, who made his first six shots and scored 15 of his 18 points in the first half. The freshman made both of his three-point tries and grabbed eight rebounds in a team-high 32 minutes.
Junior point guard
Abe Massaley picked up Tournament MVP honors after another fine performance that featured 15 points, a game-high seven assists and four steals. Massaley leaves the weekend averaging 16 points and 5.5 assists in two games.
Joining Massaley at the 15-point mark was sophomore
Dustin Sleva, who finished with 11 rebounds to notch a double-double. Sleva was an efficient 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-7 from downtown. For his efforts, Sleva was named to the all-tournament team.
SU carried a six-point lead into half, but distanced itself quickly in the second half with a 10-2 run out of the break. The Raiders never led by less than nine points the rest of the way.
The Raiders had another big night on the glass, outrebounding the Warriors 52-32. To go along with Sleva's 11 boards, redshirt-freshman
Manny Span had nine rebounds and five points.
Shippensburg will try to remain unbeaten when it travels to East Stroudsburg Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
