SHIP 2015 MGSHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg University football team hosts just its second game in the last five weeks on Saturday as it welcomes Lock Haven to SU Student Assocation Field at Seth Grove Stadium during this weekend's Fall Break.
The Red Raiders, picked tied for third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Preseason Coaches' Poll, went 6-5 last season after winning three of their last four games. The winning season was head coach
Mark Maciejewski's fourth in four years at the helm.
The Bald Eagles, picked sixth in the PSAC Eastern Division Preseason Coaches' Poll, went 2-9 last season and have since changed head coaches. Lock Haven, while 0-5 this season, played within three points of East Stroudsburg two weeks ago and was tied 9-9 at halftime with West Chester last weekend.
Broadcast Information• Live online video coverage of the game will be provided by Shippensburg University's student station (SUTV) and can be accessed online through the link above along with an archive of the game.
• The game will also be shown on television on Comcast community access channel 21 and campus channel 82.
• Live audio coverage of the game will be provided by Shippensburg University's student radio station (WSYC) and can be accessed online through the link above and over terrestrial radio at 88.7 FM.
Last Week• Shippensburg overcame multiple 27-point deficits Saturday to come from behind and defeat East Stroudsburg, 69-67, in the longest game in Red Raider football history – a five-overtime classic in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game at a cold Eiler-Martin Stadium. It was also the most combined points ever in an SU game (136).
• Lock Haven hosted West Chester and the two teams were tied at halftime, 9-9. The Bald Eagles struck early and led 6-0 less than two minutes into the game, but West Chester's Brandon Monk returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. WCU scored 10 points in the third quarter and quarterback Pat Moriarty threw for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Series History: Red Raiders vs. Bald Eagles• The Red Raiders are in command of the overall series, leading 49-18-3.
• Shippensburg has won 11-in-a-row over the Bald Eagles and has only lost once to Lock Haven over the last 19 years (26-13 in 2002).
• The two teams first met in 1929 with Shippensburg earning a 26-6 home victory. Shippensburg has outscored Lock Haven 398-132 over the last 10 meetings.
• The two teams met in the 2010 season finale with Shippensburg earning a 41-17 road victory in Rocky Rees's last game as the Red Raiders head coach.
• In 1999, Shippensburg earned its largest margin of victory over Lock Haven with a 68-7 decision over the Bald Eagles. In 1995, SU earned a 73-29 victory.
Finally, Haven Comes to SHIP• Due to multiple scheduling quirks in the PSAC over the last few years, Shippensburg is hosting Lock Haven for the first time since 2009 despite having played Lock Haven four times at Hubert Jack Stadium over the last five years.
• Since the advent of PSAC divisional play in 1960, Lock Haven was the only opponent that Shippensburg had faced every season from 1960-2009. SU shifted to the PSAC's Eastern Division in 2008, but Lock Haven remained in the Western Division — ending at the time what had been yearly divisional games. LHU still remained on the schedule in 2008 and 2009, however, as they played the Red Raiders in early-season crossover contests.
• In 2010, the teams were not supposed to meet, but ended up playing in the final game of the regular season due to the flexing of the PSAC State Game (SU was supposed to play Mercyhurst, but the Lakers reached the State Game). 2011 marked the first time in 51 years that the two teams did not meet in a regular-season game.
• The Bald Eagles returned to SU's crossover schedule in 2012, meaning that Shippensburg was supposed to play at Lock Haven in 2013. However, that offseason, Seton Hill joined the league in the Western Division and C.W. Post departed from the Eastern Division. LHU was then shifted to the Eastern Division and given C.W. Post's old schedule. Because the Red Raiders were supposed to play at C.W. Post that year, they therefore traveled to Lock Haven instead.
