Field Hockey Clinches No. 3 PSAC Seed With Senior Day Win Over Bloomsburg, 3-0

SU sets up rematch with Huskies on Tuesday in PSAC Quarterfinals

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team used two early goals Saturday to propel itself to a 3-0 victory over Bloomsburg in the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular season match at the Robb Sports Complex.

With the victory, Shippensburg (13-4, 7-3 PSAC) set up a rematch with the Huskies (9-9, 5-5) Tuesday in the first round of the PSAC tournament.

The Raiders attacked quickly Saturday as sophomore Kylie Huffman connected on a shot from just inside the circle for her second goal of the season. Huffman's goal came 10:26 into the game, and less than a minute later the Raiders earned a penalty stroke.

Freshman Brooke Zeiders converted the stroke with a shot just inside the left post for her fifth goal of the year.

The Raiders held the 2-0 lead into halftime, and then quickly added a third after the break. Junior Kendall Beck added her sixth goal of the year just 30 seconds into the second half.

Meanwhile, the SU defense played one of its best games of the season. The Raiders limited Bloomsburg to just two shots, neither of which were on goal, and two penalty corners.

Despite not making a save, senior Taylor Webster, earned her seventh shutout of the season.

The 3-0 result in favor of Shippensburg ends a streak of three straight meetings between SU and Bloomsburg that ended in a 1-0 victory for the Raiders. Overall, the Raiders have won six straight over the Huskies.
