The Shippensburg University men's soccer team created plenty of scoring chances Saturday but dropped a 1-0 decision in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) loss at Mercyhurst.
Shippensburg (5-7, 2-6 PSAC) matched the Lakers with five shots on goal – Mercyhurst outshot SU, 14-13, overall. The big difference came in the corner kick department, where Shippensburg totaled seven to just one by Mercyhurst (5-7, 5-1).
However, the Raiders could not find an equalizer after the Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute on a goal by Richard Vanhorne.
Shippensburg's five shots on goal came from two sources as senior

Junior
Jeff Ballard had a shot blocked in the 88th minute leading to SU's final corner. Off the corner, Arnold put a shot on goal, but it was saved by Mercyhurst goalkeeper Daniel Lowton.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper

Saturday's setback marks the 19th straight loss by Shippensburg that has come by just one goal.
