The Shippensburg University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie Wednesday afternoon in a conference match at IUP, snapping a two-game losing streak in PSAC play.
Shippensburg (1-3-2, 1-3-2 PSAC) opened the scoring in the 62nd minute off a corner kick. Senior
Alyssa House scored on a header and sophomore
Stephanie Allshouse was credited with the assist. It was SU's first goal during regulation in its last five contests.
IUP (5-1-1, 5-1-1 PSAC) answered in the 75th minute when Riley Bartoo converted a penalty kick following an SU handball in the scoring box.
The Raiders nearly triumphed in double overtime, as a shot off a corner kick by freshman
Kat Hartner clanged off the post.
SU held a significant statistical edge, recording a 15-6 margin in shots and 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Senior
Carolyn Smith led all players with five shots on goal – three of which were stopped in overtime.
The Raiders held IUP without a shot on goal for the entire first half and in both of the overtime sessions. Crimson Hawk keeper Jessica Printz made eight saves.
Shippensburg returns home Saturday for a 2 p.m. conference clash with Clarion.
