Emily Estep carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Game 1 and junior third baseman
Liz Parkins hit a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning of Game 2 to lift the No. 16 Shippensburg University softball team to a PSAC East doubleheader road sweep of Lock Haven from Lawrence Field. SU won the opener 3-1 before taking the nightcap 6-5.
After surrendering a 5-1 lead with a Lock Haven grand slam in the fifth inning of the second game, the Raiders (19-5, 5-3 PSAC East) re-took a 6-5 lead with Parkins's single up the middle to score junior shortstop
Taylor Weisman.
Shippensburg then won the game with a play at the plate in the bottom of the seventh after a Lock Haven (6-19, 1-9) runner on third with two outs broke for home on a wild pitch. Sophomore catcher
Taylor Llewellyn recovered the ball and threw to junior pitcher
Makenzie Lynn covering home to put out the potential tying run and clinch the Raider sweep.
Estep retired 15 of the first 16 batters she faced in the opener and struck out nine in a two-hit, complete-game performance. She allowed a single and double to lead off the seventh before surrendering a run-scoring groundout to make the score 3-1 and place the potential tying run at the plate. Estep induced a pair of pop ups to third base in foul territory to end the game, however, and improve her record to 10-1 on the season.
Senior left fielder
Hilary Lyons went 4-for-7 on the day with two runs driven in and two stolen bases while sophomore right fielder
Briana Giovenco and sophomore second baseman
Taylor Pattillo each collected three hits. Giovenco went 3-for-6 with a run and an RBI while Pattillo drove in three runs, including a home run in the opener to go along with a pair of RBI singles.
The Raiders host Millersville tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader from Robb Field. SU will be hosting MS Awareness Day surrounding the doubleheader. More information on the event can be found
