Box Score 2 SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – In a road PSAC East doubleheader at West Chester on Tuesday afternoon, the No. 17 Shippensburg University softball team was limited to just nine hits while leaving a total of nine runners on base as the Raiders dropped both games to the Golden Rams, 3-2 and 6-0, from WCU's South Campus Softball Field.
Senior left fielder
Hilary Lyons was the only Raider (17-5, 3-3 PSAC) to record multiple hits on the day, going 4-for-5 between the two games with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored.
Despite giving up seven hits and striking out seven in the opener, senior pitcher
Emily Estep was tabbed for her first loss of the season in the complete-game effort.
After the Golden Rams (17-10, 6-2) scored a run on a solo home run in the third inning of Game 1, Shippensburg took the lead with back-to-back runs in the fourth and fifth. Junior shortstop
Taylor Weisman led off the fourth with a single to left field before eventually scoring on an RBI groundout courtesy of junior designated player
Jessie Trammell. Lyons then hit a two-out triple to center in the fifth before scoring on an RBI in-field single by freshman
Jenny Peel in the following at-bat.
West Chester hit another solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, however, before taking the lead with a one-run single in the sixth that would turn into the game winner.
Junior pitcher
Liz Parkins pitched into the sixth of Game 2 and was touched for three runs on seven hits before also suffering her first loss of the season to drop to 3-1.
Down 2-0 through five innings, the Raiders put three runners on base in the sixth inning – including runners at first and second with two outs – but failed to plate any runs before West Chester tacked on four more in the bottom half of the frame to secure the victory.
Shippensburg returns to Robb Field on Friday to host Millersville in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
