No. 19 Softball Finishes Week at NTC Spring Games With Win Over AIC, Loss to No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan

Raiders collect 19 hits on the day and 16 vs. AIC – their most in a game since totaling 17 at Bloomsburg on April 1, 2012

CLERMONT, Fla. – Junior shortstop Taylor Weisman ripped a pair of home runs and totaled five RBIs as the No. 19 Shippensburg University softball team wrapped up its week at the NTC Spring Games with an 8-2 loss to No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday morning from Hancock Park before dispatching American International by a 9-3 margin in the afternoon.

The Raiders finished with a 5-2 mark in Florida to improve to 8-2 on the season. They will conclude their annual spring trip at the West Virginia Tournament from Salem, Va., where they will open Friday with games against Fairmont State and Shepherd at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.

Shippensburg ripped a season-high 16 hits against American International (1-4) – SU's most in a game since totaling 17 hits in a win at Bloomsburg on April 1, 2012.

Weisman paced the way offensively for Shippensburg on the day, hitting a solo home run to straight-away center in the seventh inning vs. West Virginia Wesleyan (11-3) before going 2-for-2 vs. AIC with an RBI double in the first inning and a three-run jack to right center. Weisman is now tied for the PSAC lead with three home runs on the season.

Making her first career start vs. AIC, freshman third baseman Jenny Peel impressed with a 4-for-4 effort with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Taylor Pattillo went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and her first career home run – a solo shot to right field in the fifth inning.

Junior first baseman Maddie Justice collected two hits on the day while sophomore right fielder Briana Giovenco went 2-for-2 with two runs scored from her leadoff spot vs. AIC.

Junior center fielder Tyler Thompson, senior left fielder Hilary Lyons, junior third baseman Liz Parkins, junior first baseman Jessie Trammell and sophomore center fielder Courtney Kane each collected a hit on the day.

Lyons drove in two runs vs. AIC while senior second baseman Rachel Shumway (walk) and senior catcher Kirstin McClune (sacrifice fly) also recorded an RBI vs. the Yellow Jackets.

Reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week Emily Estep earned the win vs. AIC. The senior allowed two hits in four innings and struck out three while Parkins pitched the final two frames and fanned three batters.
