CLERMONT, Fla. – Junior shortstop
Taylor Weisman ripped a pair of home runs and totaled five RBIs as the No. 19 Shippensburg University softball team wrapped up its week at the NTC Spring Games with an 8-2 loss to No. 22 West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday morning from Hancock Park before dispatching American International by a 9-3 margin in the afternoon.
The Raiders finished with a 5-2 mark in Florida to improve to 8-2 on the season. They will conclude their annual spring trip at the West Virginia Tournament from Salem, Va., where they will open Friday with games against Fairmont State and Shepherd at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
Shippensburg ripped a season-high 16 hits against American International (1-4) – SU's most in a game since totaling 17 hits in a win at Bloomsburg on April 1, 2012.
Weisman paced the way offensively for Shippensburg on the day, hitting a solo home run to straight-away center in the seventh inning vs. West Virginia Wesleyan (11-3) before going 2-for-2 vs. AIC with an RBI double in the first inning and a three-run jack to right center. Weisman is now tied for the PSAC lead with three home runs on the season.

Taylor Pattillo went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and her first career home run – a solo shot to right field in the fifth inning.

Briana Giovenco went 2-for-2 with two runs scored from her leadoff spot vs. AIC.

Reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week
Emily Estep earned the win vs. AIC. The senior allowed two hits in four innings and struck out three while Parkins pitched the final two frames and fanned three batters.
