SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team, seeded No. 3 in the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament, will host No. 6 seed Slippery Rock at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a quarterfinal matchup at Robb Sports Complex.

Admission has been set by the PSAC at $7 for adults and $2 for students. Any students of PSAC-member institutions, however, receive free admission with their student identification card.

Shippensburg (14-3), ranked No. 3 in Division II, has defeated Slippery Rock (9-9) twice this season – 2-0 at Slippery Rock on September 23 and 3-0 in Shippensburg on October 28.

SU is participating in its 14th consecutive PSAC Tournament but its first-ever conference quarterfinal. The conference began allowing six teams into the postseason in 2011, but SU has earned a bye into the semifinals in each of the last three seasons.

Shippensburg is competing in the PSAC Tournament for the 15th time in 16 years under NFHCA Hall of Fame head coach Bertie Landes. 2014 also marks the 14th straight season that Landes has guided SU to a Top 3 finish in the PSAC regular-season standings.

The Raiders have allowed only four total shots in the two games with The Rock this season, including just two on goal. SU has posted a 23-1 advantage in penalty corners and a 30-4 shots advantage despite scoring just five goals in the two games.

Both teams are stout defensively. Shippensburg has allowed just nine goals in 17 games and is on pace to set a school record for the fewest goals allowed in a season. Slippery Rock has allowed more than two goals in a game just twice this season, but SU is one of the teams to have done so.

Shippensburg enters Tuesday's matchup having won 26 consecutive meetings over Slippery Rock. The Rock last defeated the Raiders in 1998.

SU is 13-22 in PSAC Tournament matches dating back to 1979. Its lone conference title came in 2005.
