SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg University football team hosts East Stroudsburg on Saturday with a noon matchup from SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium. For those that cannot attend, a variety of live coverage options are available, including a free online webstream courtesy of Shippensburg University Television (SUTV). Links are posted above.
The game is also expected to be carried this week by the local Comcast community access channel (21). Series History:• Saturday marks the 50th meeting between the two schools.
• Shippensburg leads the overall series 30-17-2, and has been particularly dominant at home, holding an 18-6-1 advantage. The Raiders have won 12 of the last 14 meetings between the two teams.
• SU currently holds a five-game win streak vs. the Warriors, with SU's last loss to ESU coming in a 44-41 overtime defeat at East Stroudsburg during the 2008 season.
• ESU's last victory at Seth Grove Stadium came in 2002, a 23-21 win for the Warriors.
• The two teams first met in 1926 with Shippensburg earning a 7-0 home victory.
• Perhaps the most historic meeting between the two teams came in 1976, when Shippensburg hosted East Stroudsburg in the State Game. The Red Raiders, under head coach Joe Mark, battled current ESU head coach Denny Douds and the Warriors to a 14-14 tie. Another historic clash came in the 1991 NCAA playoffs when SU beat ESU on the road in overtime, 34-33. Current SU head coach
Mark Maciejewski played in that game for the Red Raiders.
About the Teams:• The Red Raiders, picked No. 4 in the PSAC Eastern Division Preseason Coaches' Poll, went 7-4 last season. After defeating Seton Hill and Edinboro to open the 2014 season, Shippensburg has dropped games against California and Bloomsburg.
• The Warriors, picked No. 2 in the PSAC Eastern Division Preseason Coaches' Poll, went 7-4 last year but just 4-3 in the PSAC East after losses to Shippensburg, West Chester and Bloomsburg. ESU was routed this season by Slippery Rock but has otherwise defeated LIU Post, Edinboro and Lock Haven.
Last Week:• Shippensburg senior wide receiver
Trevor Harman became the all-time career receptions leader in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Saturday but the Red Raiders ultimately dropped an emotional 38-30 decision to No. 13 Bloomsburg at Redman Stadium. Quarterback
Chris Lawshe completed a career-high 33 passes out of 47 attempts for 347 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 40 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked seven times on the day.
• East Stroudsburg redshirt junior quarterback Matt Soltes and redshirt sophomore tailback Robert Healy highlighted another strong offensive performance and ESU head coach Denny Douds entered the top 10 on the NCAA's all-division list of games coached in the Warriors' 48-21 win over Lock Haven at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Only five coaches have coached more games at one institution than Douds has coached at East Stroudsburg.
Success at Seth Grove:• The Red Raiders have been dominant at home under head coach Mark 'Mac' Maciejewski, posting a 15-4 record at Seth Grove Stadium since the start of the 2011 season.
• Over the last three-plus seasons at home, the Red Raiders have out-scored opponents by an 862-512 margin – an average of 45.3-27.0 per game.
• Shippensburg has scored at least 17 points in all 19 home games under Maciejewski.
• Shippensburg is 15-1 at home under Maciejewski when it scores 30+ points and 0-3 when it scores less than 30 points. Its first home loss when scoring 30+ points came two weeks ago against California.
• Included in the win total is a school-record 12-game home winning streak that began with a win over East Stroudsburg on Nov. 5, 2011 and ended Oct. 26, 2013.
• Shippensburg won all seven home games in 2012 — a program record and the school's first undefeated season at home since 1999.
