Box Score

The Shippensburg University women's basketball team was unable to hold onto a first-half double-digit lead on Wednesday evening in a 94-74 road loss to PSAC West heavyweight Edinboro in each team's conference crossover finale from the Fighting Scots' McComb Fieldhouse.

Four Raiders (9-4) scored in double figures, led by freshman Lauren Gold, who scored 17 points for the second consecutive game while shooting 8-of-9 from the free-throw line and recording four rebounds and four assists.

The Raiders shot 25-of-28 from the free-throw line, good for a season-high 89.2 percent proficiency.

Senior Sarah Strybuc and freshman Morgan Griffith each contributed 16 points with Strybuc dishing out a team-high five assists and Griffith pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

Sophomore Stephanie Knauer added 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting to accompany her six rebounds.

The Raiders got off to a quick start and led 21-11 nine minutes into the contest. The Fighting Scots (9-3) got hot from that point on, however, with a dominating 24-4 run before leading by as many as 14, up 42-28, with fewer than four minutes left in the half.

After a pair of Gold free throws and an Edinboro jumper by Lauren Hippo (20 points), Shippensburg scored the final 10 points of the half to cut its intermission deficit to just four, down 44-40.

A Knauer layup to open the second-half scoring would cut it to two but that would be as close as the Raiders would get as Edinboro dominated the final 20 minutes in out-scoring SU 50-34.

The Fighting Scots recorded 13 steals in the contest and out-scored SU 24-10 in points off turnovers. Leading the way for the victors was junior Valerie Majewski, who recorded the program's first triple-double since 2006 with game highs of 25 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.

The Raiders open up PSAC East play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 1 p.m. tip from Koehler Fieldhouse.
