Wrestling Hits the Mat Sunday at Mid-Atlantic Duals, Notches Wins Over Tiffin, Belmont Abbey

SU goes 2-1 in competition hosted by Ashland University; Ramos goes 3-0 with two pins

The Shippensburg University wrestling team won two of its three bouts Sunday at the Mid-Atlantic Duals hosted by Ashland University, defeating Tiffin (42-12) and Belmont Abbey (38-6) after falling to No. 8/No. 10 Indianapolis (31-6). The dual meet victories are the first of the season for Shippensburg (2-4).

Freshman Evan Ramos went 3-0 on the day at 184 pounds, posting two victories by fall and winning a decision. At 133 pounds, freshman Chris Miller went 2-0 with a pin and a technical fall.

SU's first match of the day was its toughest, as the Raiders had to face the Top 10-ranked Greyhounds, who won eight of 10 bouts. Ramos picked up a 4-1 decision at 184 pounds and freshman Jalal Paige notched a 7-5 decision at 197 pounds.

Freshman Kyle Barnes held his own against No. 4-ranked Cameryn Brady, a returning All-American, in dropping a 4-2 decision at 149 pounds. Junior Dave Calambas dropped an 11-4 decision to No. 2-ranked Alex Johns at 125 pounds.

Against Tiffin, SU posted three victories by fall and earned four forfeit wins. Ramos pinned his opponent at 184 pounds, while Miller put his opponent on his back at 3:59 and freshman Karl Lightner notched a victory by fall at 141 pounds in 1:44.

In the final dual meet of the day, SU won nine of the 10 weight classes. Ramos pinned Kwame Seymour in 1:41; Miller posted a 16-1 technical fall in one period, and sophomore Mark Lentz reached a technical fall in the third period at 157 pounds.

Senior Jacob Nale achieved a 14-2 decision at heavyweight against Belmont Abbey, while redshirt junior Casey Hedash made his Raider debut and picked up a 6-4 decision at 197 pounds. Calambas managed a 1-0 decision at 125 pounds to go 2-1 on the day.

Shippensburg hosts Seton Hill at 7 p.m. Thursday inside Heiges Field House.
