SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team honored its three seniors –
Julie Brown,
Chelsey Michael and
Colleen Stiles – in advance of its final home meet of the regular season Saturday. SU defeated Davis & Elkins, 152-67.
Brown won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and also swam legs of the opening 400-yard medley relay and the concluding 200-yard freestyle relay. She came within .03 seconds of the Donald N. Miller pool record in both of her 50-yard freestyle swims on the afternoon.
Michael swam the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and contributed to a 400-yard medley relay squad. Stiles swam the fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.19) and finished second by two-tenths of a second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.64).
SU posted the fastest times in 12 of the 14 events Saturday and had multiple event winners.
Sophomore
Carolyn Meier won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.83 and later posted the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.07).
Junior
Jess Trgovic was victorious in both breaststroke events, taking the 100 in 1:13.56 and the 200 in 2:40.22.
Sophomore
Rikki Sargent won both butterfly events, winning the 100 in 1:02.12 and the 200 in 2:19.66.
Freshman
Rebecca Burke won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:14.56 while junior
Jen Flinchbaugh posted season bests in winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.55 and placing second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.04.
Shippensburg will compete next weekend at Navy as it continues to prepare for the 2014 PSAC Championships, to be held February 14-17 in York.
