Game Coverage

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg University women's and men's basketball teams travel to Millersville on Saturday afternoon for a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader against the Marauders from Pucillo Gymnasium. The women's game will tip at 1 p.m. followed by the men's game at approximately 3 p.m.

The contests are rematches of season-ending losses in the PSAC Tournament last March. The women lost at home to Millersville in the PSAC Quarterfinals while the men lost at Millersville in the PSAC First Round.

WOMEN

•    Shippensburg and Millersville are tied with Bloomsburg for second in the East standings with a 5-2 record.

•    A dominating first-half performance propelled Shippensburg to an 86-57 home divisional victory on Wednesday evening over Kutztown. The Raiders shot a stellar 75 percent (6-of-8) in the first half from behind the arc – and 9-of-15 overall – on their way to snapping a three-game home losing streak to the Golden Bears dating back to Feb. 20, 2010.

•    Reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week Lauren Gold scored a game-high 24 points, tied a career-high with three three-pointers on five attempts and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line.

•    Also on Wednesday, the Millersville defense stymied the Lock Haven offense in a 74-47 road victory.

•     SU is the second-highest scoring team in the PSAC this season at 80.5 points per game. The Raiders have scored 90 or more points in five games this season — already two more than they have totaled in the previous seven seasons combined.

MEN

•    On Wednesday night, sophomore Tony Ellis recorded his first career double-double but Shippensburg came up short in the final minutes and dropped a back-and-forth contest to visiting Kutztown, 62-58.

•    SU led for nearly 30 minutes of the game – including a stretch from the 12-minute mark of the first half to the 12-minute mark of the second half – as the teams combined for 11 lead changes and nine ties.

•    Also on Wednesday, Millersville made a season-low four threes in a 76-71 road loss at Lock Haven.

•    Sophomore Joe Lococo has taken on a greater scoring load this season as he leads the team and ranks fourth in the PSAC with 19.7 points per game.

•    Redshirt-freshman Marcus Williams ranks second in the PSAC with 8.6 rebounds per game and has posted 10+ rebounds seven times. He also leads the team with 28 blocks — the most for a Raider in a single season since 2008-09. His 1.8 blocks per game rank sixth in the PSAC.
