The Shippensburg University wrestling team finished in fourth place on Saturday at the 2014 Mid-Penn Duals hosted by Millersville University. SU went 2-2 overall, defeating Stevens (N.J.) and Sacred Heart while falling to Franklin & Marshall and York (Pa.).

Shippensburg (6-6) had two wrestlers post three victories on the day. Freshman Kyle Barnes went 3-0 at 149 pounds with a pair of pins, while freshman Evan Ramos went 3-1 between 184 and 197 pounds and also notched two victories by fall.

Barnes has now won five-in-a-row and is 8-3 overall, while Ramos improved his record to 16-6.

Other Raiders with multiple victories included junior Dave Calambas at 125 pounds, sophomore Mark Lentz at 157 pounds and senior Jacob Nale at heavyweight.

Shippensburg returns to action next Saturday at the Super Region 2 Duals hosted by Newberry College.

SU began the day with a 37-10 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology, a squad ranked No. 18 in Division III but competing without several regulars who were competing at the College of Mount Saint Vincent Invitational.

The Raiders notched pins in four of the first five bouts against the Ducks and totaled five victories by fall in the match. Calambas and freshman Dante Steffenino each scored first-period pins, with Calambas' coming in 93 seconds and Steffenino's occurring in 1:50.

Barnes scored his pin in 4:08 at 149 pounds, while at 157 pounds, Lentz got his opponent on his back in 2:08. Ramos recorded a victory by fall at 184 pounds in 3:33.

SU's other victors were freshman Karl Lightner, who picked up a 17-4 major decision at 141 pounds, and freshman Jalal Paige, who earned a 9-3 decision at 197 pounds.

Franklin & Marshall 34, Shippensburg 9

In its second match of the day, Shippensburg dropped a match against Division I opponent Franklin & Marshall, 34-9. The Diplomats also defeated SU at last year's Mid-Penn Duals, 19-16. On Saturday, F&M scored bonus points in five matches, including a technical fall, pin and injury default.

SU's victories against the Diplomats were a pin by Barnes just 35 seconds into the second period of his 149-pound match, while junior Casey Hedash stepped in at 184 pounds with a 2-1 decision.

Shippensburg 27, Sacred Heart 21

Nale scored a victory by fall in 74 seconds at heavyweight to clinch the win over the Pioneers. Shippensburg received forfeits at the opening two weight classes but won just once among the next five bouts.

The key SU victory came at 157 pounds, where Lentz notched a 5-4 decision. Ramos shifted back to 184 pounds and scored his second pin of the day, as he achieved his victory by fall with 40 seconds left in his match. Ramos wrestled up in the earlier bout against Franklin & Marshall.

York 21, Shippensburg 15

The match against the Spartans featured a quick pin by Calambas in 80 seconds that prefaced eight decisions and one forfeit. York won six of the last nine bouts, with two coming by one point and two by two points.

Barnes notched a 4-1 win at 149 pounds, while Ramos scored a 10-8 win at 184 pounds and Nale won 7-1 at heavyweight.
