SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team used a trio of second-half goals on a sunny Thursday afternoon to defeat Holy Family, 3-0, in its season opener from David See Field.

After a deliberately-paced first half, Shippensburg (1-0) got its first tally of the game from sophomore Brianna Brancato in the 51st minute. Brancato sent home a beautiful finish off a rebound from a free kick for her second collegiate tally and her first with the Raiders in her debut game with the team.

"We didn't possess the ball as well in the first half and let the game come to us," head coach Rob Fulton said. "In the second half we started to make some adjustments, started to press more, and played with a lot more composure."

SU tilted the field in the second half and capitalized with two other tallies. In the 71st minute, junior Brooke Clippinger applied pressure to the defense and took advantage of a miscue to score her first collegiate goal and pad the Raiders' lead to two goals.

With less than five minutes left, sophomore Kaila Dautrich added further insurance for Shippensburg by tacking on the third and final goal of the contest. It was also the first career goal for Dautrich.

The Raiders out-shot the Tigers 23-8 and finished with a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. The visitors did not manage a shot on goal in the second half.

In goal, senior keeper Shelbie Rackley recorded three saves for her seventh career shutout.

"We created a lot more chances for ourselves in the second half and were able to put three in the back of the net," Fulton said. "We shook off the early first-game jitters and it was a great way to start off."

All 16 of SU's remaining contests are against PSAC opponents. The Raiders will travel to Edinboro to face the Fighting Scots at 1 p.m. Saturday.
