SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated IUP, 4-3, on a late second-half goal by
Bre White on Saturday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex.
With 2:15 left in the game, White maneuvered her way to the left side of the circle and used a reverse sweep to send the ball through the goalie's legs to the lower right corner of the cage. White leads the conference in both goals (eight) and points (21), and is tied for first in assists with five.
Shippensburg (6-0, 0-0 PSAC) built a comfortable 3-0 lead, but a second-half rally by the Crimson Hawks (1-5, 0-0) nearly forced the game into overtime had it not been White's late game-winner. During the rally, IUP scored three goals in a span of just over eight minutes to knot the score up at 3-3.
SU wasted no time getting on the board as
Taylor Bender connected on a pass to
Megan Jett for the game's first goal just over a minute into the contest. The Raiders added two more unanswered goals by
Lucy Kauffman and
Lauren Taylor to extend the lead to 3-0.
With the win, senior
Carenna Neely improves her record to 6-0 as she recorded two saves against the Crimson Hawks.
The Raiders out-shot IUP 17-8 and held a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners.
Shippensburg will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Erie to face Mercyhurst in a 3 p.m. contest.
