SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Bre White scored twice Wednesday on assists by sophomore Molly Stuart as the No. 1-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team out-ran No. 6 Kutztown, 4-0, in a non-conference matchup at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (5-0) posted its first shutout of the season and tilted the field with its passing and possession. The Raiders achieved a 22-8 advantage in shots and a 13-5 margin in penalty corners.

"We talked about passing the ball more accurately because we were not passing the ball well in the first half," head coach Bertie Landes said. "They put a lot of people defensively in the circle, but I think our conditioning really paid off and I think we had some breakaway opportunities with our passing."

The game did feature a deliberate pace early on but the scoring began at the 22:16 mark when junior Ari Saytar rifled a powerful back-hander into the cage for her second goal of the season. Ten minutes later, Stuart sent a feed into the box that White tapped in to make it 2-0.

SU put the game away in the final eight minutes. Junior Lucy Kauffman tapped in a cross-crease pass from junior Tori Ricker with 7:37 to play that made it 3-0. The final goal came four minutes later when White took a Stuart pass, dribbled into the scoring arc, and sent a shot into the lower left portion of the cage.

Senior Carenna Neely recorded all five of her saves in the second half to achieve her first solo shutout since Sept. 12, 2011.

Kutztown (3-1) got 10 saves from goalkeeper Kayla Denlinger and made four defensive saves as a team.

"We knew they were dangerous," Landes said. "They were 3-0, played well against Slippery Rock and beat them. But we just wanted to play our style of game, be aggressive, play as a team and it worked out today."

Shippensburg hosts IUP at 1 p.m. Saturday in a non-conference field hockey matchup on Parents and Family Day.
