Box Score
In front of a record capacity crowd from Mansfield's Van Norman field on Saturday afternoon, the No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team used three first-half goals – including two from junior Tori Ricker – to spark a 5-1 victory over the Mountaineers and improve to 4-0 on the season.
In the inaugural game on Van Norman Field's new AstroTurf surface, Mansfield's (2-2) attendance of 2,011 was an NCAA Division II record and the third-highest NCAA attendance overall.
Saturday's contest was the second multi-goal game of Ricker's career, as she previously scored two in a 5-0 win at Mercyhurst on October 17 last season. Her two goals were her first of this season and the eighth and ninth of her career.
Senior Bre White assisted on Ricker's second goal and also added a goal of her own – her fifth of the season – nearly five minutes into the second half.
Senior Taylor Bender opened the scoring with her third of the season off an assist from senior Katie Shoop. Bender also assisted freshman Kendall Beck on her first career goal that closed out the game's scoring with eight minutes left.
Saturday's game was another non-conference matchup despite it featuring two teams from the PSAC. The two teams will meet again at SU on September 27, with that meeting being the conference opener for each team.
Shippensburg will host Kutztown at 5 p.m. Wednesday in a non-conference matchup from Robb Sports Complex.
