QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The No. 20 Shippensburg University softball team dropped its first game at the 2013 PSAC Softball Tournament, 6-0, to Central No. 3 seed Bloomsburg on Wednesday afternoon at Veterans Park.

The Raiders will play Mansfield at 10 a.m. Thursday in an elimination game.

Shippensburg (30-10) managed just two hits against Bloomsburg's Cait Payne, who struck out nine and did not walk a batter in recording her second complete game of the day (Payne threw all seven innings in BU's 7-1 victory over Gannon earlier in the day).

Senior Kiersten Darhower reached on a single to lead off the game and junior Hilary Lyons singled to lead off the sixth, but neither was able to reach home plate.

The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. Bloomsburg (29-15) got on the board with two outs after a bloop single by Hannah Moir plated pinch runner Erika Yanora. Rachel Fredell walked to lead off the inning before being replaced by Yanora, who advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a bizarre 2-4 putout on a popup that landed in fair territory.

Junior Emily Estep struck out 10 in her complete-game effort but was tagged for five runs in the seventh inning with two outs, as Kayla McHale launched a two-run shot and Chrissy Belko hit a three-run homer.

If the Raiders defeat Mansfield in their 10 a.m. game, they will face either Kutztown or West Chester at 4 p.m. in another elimination game.
