SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team was within one goal of No. 2 West Chester with less than 10 minutes to play in a physical Tuesday afternoon showdown but the Raiders could not stave off the talented Golden Rams, falling 17-12 from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (4-8, 2-4 PSAC) and West Chester (9-0, 6-0 PSAC) were tied 4-4 with nine minutes to go in the opening half before the visitors reeled off an 8-1 run to lead 12-5 with 25 minutes to play.
Undaunted, the Raiders responded by keeping the Golden Rams off the scoreboard for 18 minutes and used a 6-0 run to make the score 12-11 with 11:15 to go. WCU proved to be too much down the stretch, scoring five of the final six tallies.
Entering Tuesday's game, West Chester had not allowed more than eight goals in a game this season and had defeated seven of its eight opponents by at least 10 goals. Not only did SU hang 12 on the scoreboard on Tuesday, but its five-goal margin was the closest game of the season for the two-time national champion Golden Rams.
Senior
Lindsey Kennedy was stupendous in Tuesday's game, scoring three goals and handing out four more assists for the Raiders. It was the fifth hat trick of the season for Kennedy, whose seven points matched a season high. She has scored in 10 of 12 games this season.

Junior
Carly Ruberti, whose presence on draws has steadily increased over the last three games, stepped up with a significant career high of nine draw controls. Ruberti's work on the draw was noteworthy as the visiting Golden Rams finished with just a 16-15 edge in draw controls for the game.
Freshman
Ally Frymoyer had another splendid effort in goal for the Raiders, making 14 saves for the second consecutive game. Frymoyer stopped multiple eight-meter shots and has now recorded double-digit saves in three of her last four starts.
Tuesday's game was played close to the vest and featured a multitude of whistles. The teams combined for 81 fouls, 35 turnovers and six yellow cards.
Shippensburg's final home game of the regular season its next contest. On Saturday, SU will host Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. in a pivotal PSAC affair from Robb Sports Complex. Before the game, the Raiders will recognize seniors
