The Shippensburg University softball team returned to its winning ways on Tuesday afternoon with a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader sweep at East Stroudsburg by scores of 4-0 and 7-1. SU improved to 24-5 overall, 7-1 in the PSAC East and leads the PSAC Eastern Division by three games.

Junior Emily Estep gave up a lead-off single in the opening game and did not allow a hit the rest of the way. Estep walked three and struck out seven in her sixth shutout of the season. In her last 40.1 innings (seven starts, one relief appearance), Estep has allowed two earned runs while striking out 61 batters.

Sophomore Liz Parkins improved her record to 8-0 with a complete-game victory in the nightcap. Parkins allowed one run on seven hits while striking out six. She did not walk a batter. Parkins has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of her starts this season.

Three Raiders – sophomores Taylor Weisman, Tyler Thompson and Maddie Justice – collected three hits in the doubleheader.

Weisman plated two runs in the opening game on RBI-singles and scored twice in Game 2. Thompson went 3-for-8 with two runs and extended her single-season school record for stolen bases to 21. Justice had a pair of RBI-singles in Game 2; she also singled in Game 1 and has reached base in seven straight games.

Nine different Raiders had at least one hit in Tuesday's doubleheader. Freshman Briana Giovenco drove in two runs on a first-inning single in Game 2 and had a hit in both games as the starting third baseman. Fellow freshman Taylor Llewellyn capped off a six-run first inning in Game 2 with a RBI-single of her own.

In Game 1, SU scored a run in the first and added two in the third inning. Junior Hilary Lyons doubled to lead off the seventh inning and eventually touched home plate to cap off the scoring in the opener.

SU completed its first trip through the PSAC Eastern Division by outscoring the opposition 29-6 despite three of the four series being on the road. The Raiders shutout each divisional opponent in one game of each doubleheader played thus far.

The Raiders will host Lock Haven at 1 p.m. Saturday in a PSAC crossover series with the Bald Eagles from Robb Field.
