The Shippensburg University tennis team dropped a pair of hard-fought matches to Bloomsburg and East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon in PSAC East competition from Bloomsburg. The Raiders dropped a 9-0 decision to the hosts before losing 5-4 to the Warriors.

The Raiders (1-10, 1-3 PSAC East) won a total of 10 games in doubles against the Huskies (4-7, 2-2), including the No. 1 duo of junior Julia Saintz and freshman Brittnee Buckley snagging five games in its loss.

The No. 3 combination of sophomore Kaitlyn Erickson and freshman Kayla Strohl earned an 8-2 win against East Stroudsburg (4-8, 1-2). Freshman Katie Shearer and junior Daniela Delgado paired up at No. 2 doubles in each match and dropped a pair of 8-3 losses.

After falling behind 3-0 against ESU after doubles, the Raiders took three of six in singles, beginning with Saintz winning a first-to-10 tiebreak to give her a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory at No. 1 singles. Buckley won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 4-6, 10-6, by also winning the tiebreak.

Delgado also drew a tiebreak at No. 4 singles with a 6-4 win in the second set before dropping the tiebreak, 10-4. Junior Hannah Wolfe then won a tiebreak at No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 10-4.

The singles wins for Saintz, Buckley and Wolfe were the second of the season for each.
