SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team raced out to a six-goal lead at halftime Saturday and matched its tempo in the second half to record a pivotal conference victory, defeating Slippery Rock 16-10 from Robb Sports Complex. SU improved to 4-7 overall, 2-3 in PSAC play, while Slippery Rock fell to 3-5, 1-4 in PSAC play.

Sophomore Courtney Kennedy scored a career-high five goals for the Raiders, including four in a row midway through the first half that helped SU build its lead. Five Raiders netted multiple goals in the game and provided all 16 tallies – with sophomore Garrie Grenfell adding some scoring punch off the bench with a natural hat trick in the final four minutes of the opening frame.

Junior Kayla Dalzell, sophomore Sheila Johnson and junior Bennett Widlake each scored twice and provided an assist for Shippensburg, while senior Roxanne Brown also added two tallies.

Widlake had an especially active stick in Saturday's game, as she came away with three caused turnovers and three groundballs while thwarting several other passes in the game. Junior Liz French hustled her way to three caused turnovers, three groundballs and a team-high four draw controls.

Freshman Ally Frymoyer made several important stops in goal for the Raiders and finished with 14 saves – one short of her career high. Juniors Carly Ruberti and Sarah Burkarth added multiple groundballs from the back lines – with Ruberti also providing three draw controls.

Senior Lindsey Kennedy contributed two assists, two draw controls and three groundballs.

The Rock held a sizable advantage in draws in large part to the effectiveness of Lauren Laubach. The nation's leader in draw controls per game added 11 to her total on Saturday and also scored five of her team's 10 goals. The only other Rock player with multiple goals was Paige Costantino, who scored twice. Five of Slippery Rock's 10 goals came on eight-meter shots.

SU's 16 goals are one short of its season high of 17 set against Wheeling Jesuit. Saturday marked the second time this season that the Raiders scored 10 or more goals in a half and just the fourth time this season that the team has finished with a double-digit goal total.

Shippensburg is right back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts West Chester in a PSAC affair from Robb Sports Complex.
