Junior Emily Estep threw the first seven-inning no-hitter for the Shippensburg University softball team in seven seasons on Friday afternoon as the Raiders swept a doubleheader at West Chester in PSAC East competition, winning the opener by a 2-0 margin before taking the nightcap, 3-2.

Estep (10-2) fanned 11 for Shippensburg's (21-4, 4-0 PSAC East) first such no-hitter since Dani Shields shutout Kutztown in a 1-0 win in the 2006 PSAC Tournament.

Estep allowed three base-runners – all on walks – as the victory was her second no-hitter of the season after blanking Edinboro in a five-inning, 14-0 victory last month at the Salem Tournament.

With the wins over West Chester (20-11, 2-4 PSAC East), the Raiders surpass their win total from last season (19) with 16 games remaining. SU sits atop the PSAC East standings and now has half as many overall losses as all the other teams in the division.

Sophomore Liz Parkins earned the win in Game 2 to run her record to 7-0 on the season. She gave up six hits and two runs while pitching into the fifth inning before sophomore Makenzie Lynn entered in relief. Lynn gave up one hit and struck out three in 2.1 innings for her second career save.

Shippensburg stays on the road Saturday to play Millersville at 1 p.m. in another PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader.

Game 1: Shippensburg 2, West Chester 0

The game was scoreless through five innings before the Raiders manufactured what turned into the winning run in the top of the sixth after loading the bases with three walks. With two outs, sophomore center fielder Tyler Thompson scored from third on a wild pitch for a 1-0 SU lead.

Though the run gave Estep all the run support she needed, SU tacked on another in the seventh when, with the bases again loaded, sophomore designated player Jessie Trammell grounded into a fielder's choice RBI. The out at second allowed freshman third baseman Briana Giovenco to score from third.

The runs allowed Estep to out-duel West Chester ace Devon Utterback (10-2), who gave up just four hits in a complete-game effort. Estep's performance also snapped the hitting streak of West Chester leadoff hitter Kelly Anderson, who entered the game having safely hit in 20 consecutive games.

Game 2: Shippensburg 3, West Chester 2

Shippensburg again capitalized with the bases loaded when Parkins provided her own run support with a two-run single to right field in the second inning.

A Golden Ram solo home run from Erin Quense cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame before the Raiders got the run right back in the top of the third when Trammell added another RBI on a single through the left side.

WCU tacked on a run with an RBI double in the fifth before Lynn entered with two outs and runners on second and third. The sophomore then struck out West Chester's No. 5 hitter to end the threat.
