SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team took an early lead Saturday afternoon over intrastate rival Seton Hill but fell victim to a decisive Griffin scoring run that resulted in a 16-7 defeat from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (0-2) led 4-2 with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half as a result of goals by junior
Amanda Krok, sophomore
Sheila Johnson, sophomore
Courtney Kennedy and junior
Bennett Widlake.
Seton Hill (2-1) responded with a 12-goal run that spanned the next 32 minutes of play. The Griffins scored six times before the intermission to build an 8-4 halftime advantage and also scored the first six goals after the break.
SU managed multiple scoring chances during Seton Hill's run – including two shots that hit the post and another that rattled the crossbar – but could not manage a counter until the 10:08 mark of the second half when senior
Roxanne Brown netted an 8-meter strike.

Kayla Dalzell also scored in the game's final 10 minutes. Dalzell and senior
Lindsey Kennedy contributed assists in the game.
Widlake earned three draw controls and recorded a team-high three caused turnovers. Junior
Liz French led the Raiders with four draw controls. Senior
Sarah Chrencik paced the Raiders with five groundballs, while junior
Sarah Burkarth added four of her own.
Freshman
Ally Frymoyer made 11 saves in goal.
The Griffins got all of their scoring from six players. Four players netted hat tricks, while midfielder Emma Simmers was a constant force. Simmers' final stat line included two goals, three assists, five draw controls, six groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday from Robb Sports Complex versus Georgian Court.
