Lacrosse Unable to Hang Onto Early Lead in 14-10 Season-Opening Loss to Holy Family

Widlake scores a hat trick while L. Kennedy adds two goals and two assists; Dalzell and C. Kennedy also score twice

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team was unable to hold onto an early five-goal lead in its 2013 season opener on Tuesday afternoon as Holy Family scored 12 of the game's next 14 goals in a 14-10 SU loss from Robb Sports Complex.

The Raiders (0-1) held a 7-2 lead late in the first half before Holy Family (1-1) scored six consecutive goals in the final 6:33 before halftime, including an equalizer with no time left on the clock.

Shippensburg fought back to take a 9-8 lead 10 minutes into the second half before the Tigers again scored six straight in a 14-minute span to take a commanding five-goal lead late in the game.

Junior Bennett Widlake recorded a hat trick and added four groundball pickups. Senior Lindsey Kennedy scored twice and added two assists in addition to a team-high three caused turnovers and five draw controls.

Junior Kayla Dalzell and sophomore Courtney Kennedy each scored twice, with Kennedy's tallies coming on free position shots.

Senior Roxanne Brown added a goal in the final minute of the game while junior Amanda Krok contributed an assist and four groundball pickups.

Shippensburg will play Seton Hill on Saturday at 2 p.m. from Robb Sports Complex.
