Sophomore Jessie Trammell went 4-for-5 with four RBIs in the opener and sophomore Liz Parkins and junior Emily Estep each threw complete games while combining for 17 strikeouts as the Shippensburg University softball team split a Saturday afternoon doubleheader against Northeast-10 foe Pace from Chowan's Hawks Softball Field in Murfreesboro, N.C. The Raiders won the opener, 9-1, before falling in the nightcap, 1-0.

Parkins earned her first victory of the season for the Raiders (4-2) in her Game 1 shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out eight batters for the second consecutive outing. Estep earned the difficult loss in Game 2, striking out nine and giving up just four hits with nine strikeouts. Estep's lone blemish came in the fifth inning when Pace (3-1) catcher Erin Wood led off the inning with a home run for the game's only run.

Trammell hit a solo home run in the first inning of Game 1 for her first career round-tripper. SU added another run in the third inning when senior right fielder Kiersten Darhower reached base on an error, Trammell singled to center, sophomore shortstop Taylor Weisman walked and sophomore first baseman Maddie Justice reached on an error to plate Darhower.

The Raiders added three more runs in the fourth inning after junior catcher Kirstin McClune and Parkins led off with walks. Darhower again reached on an error to load the bases, and with two outs, Weisman knocked in McClune and Parkins with a double to left-center. Justice followed by reaching base on a hit-by-pitch and got caught in a rundown trying to steal second for the final out but not before Darhower was able to cross home plate for a 5-0 Raider lead.

Freshman third baseman Briana Giovenco led off the fifth inning with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior left fielder Hilary Lyons and scored on a McClune single to left center. McClune later scored on a Trammell single up the middle.

Trammell added two more RBIs in the seventh with a two-run single that finished the game's scoring and plated sophomore center fielder Tyler Thompson (who singled) and Darhower (who reached on a fielder's choice).

The Raiders will play a doubleheader against host Chowan tomorrow afternoon beginning at noon.
