MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team could not overcome a 36-point effort from Marauder junior guard Anthony Coleman on Saturday night, dropping a 79-69 decision to Millersville University in a PSAC Championships First Round matchup held inside Pucillo Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (7-20) was without the services of three players battling illness. Of the eight players SU used Saturday night, six were freshmen who combined for 132 of the team's 200 minutes.
Freshman
Joe Lococo, making his first start since Jan. 26, led the Raiders with 21 points and dished out a career-high eight assists. Lococo was 10-of-12 at the free-throw line and grabbed four rebounds in a team-high 38 minutes.
Junior
Dylan Edgar posted his second double-double in his last five games, scoring 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and collecting 12 rebounds. Redshirt-freshman
Tyhiem Perrin was the third Raider in double figures, scoring 14 points and hauling in six rebounds.
Millersville (19-10) closed the first half on a decisive 15-4 run over the final 4:08 of the frame to lead 35-24 at the intermission. SU cuts its deficit to seven points on several occasions during the second half but could not get any closer for the remainder of the game.
The Raiders shot 42 percent from the floor but committed 21 turnovers, while the host Marauders had 13 steals and committed a season-low eight turnovers.
Sophomore guard
Reggie Charles was hampered by foul trouble for much of the game and was limited to three points. Freshman guard
A.J. Maun scored a career-high seven points off the bench.
Coleman scored 30 of his 36 points in the second half for the Marauders. Elijah Obade provided a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
