Game 1: SHIP 12, IUP 0 (F-5)
Shippensburg jumped on IUP (4-4) early – scoring two runs in the opening inning – before exploding for 10 runs in the second. SU earned its first win over the Crimson Hawks since 2006, but the teams had only met just three times over the last six years.
In the first, Darhower and Thompson reached on infield singles. Darhower stole second base during Thompson's at-bat and then stole home on a double steal with Trammell at the plate. Trammell then dropped in a single between the right fielder and the second baseman that moved Thompson over to third – Thompson would end up scoring on the play after the right fielder misplayed the ball.
SU batted around in the second, bringing 14 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs on eight hits and taking advantage of three IUP errors. Among the many key hits in the frame included a three-run double by Trammell, two-run doubles by Justice and Parkins and a two-run single by Darhower.
Estep struck out six hitters in three innings and allowed just one single. She improved her record to 4-2 and has allowed just two earned runs in her last 31 innings from the circle. Parkins pitched the final two innings.
Game 2: SHIP 9, NYIT 0 (F-5)
SU scored in four of its five trips to the plate against NYIT (4-5), including three times in both the fourth and fifth innings.
After both Darhower and Thompson reached base again to leadoff the game, the Raiders took advantage of some sloppy fielding in the first inning to extend the frame and get two runs. The first came on a fielding error by the second baseman off a Trammel at-bat and the second came on a two-out single by Justice.
Deardorff singled to lead off the third inning and scored with two outs on a single in the hole by Trammell in which the shortstop narrowly missed making a diving catch. The 3-for-3 effort by Deardorff marked the first multi-hit game of her career.
In the fourth, Darhower hit a two-run single into right field. Lyons plated a run earlier in the frame on a ball that was booted at second base. Deardorff and Thompson had RBI-singles in the fifth, with the first run of the inning scoring on an error on a stolen base.
Lynn needed just 59 pitches to get through her five shutout innings – striking out five and not walking a batter. She yielded just three hits – all singles.
