SALEM, Va. – The Shippensburg University softball team extended its winning streak to seven consecutive games on Saturday afternoon, picking up three victories in neutral-site competition at the Moyer Sports Complex. SU defeated West Liberty (6-2), Seton Hill (6-4) and Edinboro (14-0 [5]).

Shippensburg (11-2) finished off its first undefeated trip to Salem in seven years by producing 31 more hits in three games. SU had 52 hits in five games this weekend (hitting .371 as a team) – including five home runs and eight doubles. The Raiders have not an 11-2 start to a season since its memorable 34-1 start back in 2005. The 2011 team started 9-2.

Among many hitting stars on Saturday was sophomore shortstop Taylor Weisman, who went 5-for-8 with a home run, five RBIs and five runs scored while reaching base seven times. She extended her hitting streak to seven games and is now hitting .395 through 13 games.

Junior Emily Estep fashioned SU's first five-inning team no-hitter since 2007 and the first by an individual SU pitcher since Dani Shields in the 2006 PSAC Tournament in the 14-0 win over Edinboro. The only base runner she allowed was a leadoff walk in the fourth inning.

The Raiders will board a plane tomorrow morning and head to Florida, where the team will travel to Clermont and participate in games at the National Training Complex. SU will face IUP and NYIT on Tuesday afternoon.

Game 1: Shippensburg 6, West Liberty 2

Shippensburg scored three times in both the second and third innings and held off a late Hilltopper rally to begin its Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Maddie Justice, who went 2-for-3 in the opening game, homered to lead off the second. With the bases loaded and one out, sophomore Tyler Thompson dropped down a bunt in front of home plate that resulted in a RBI-single, but a throwing error on the play allowed junior Kirstin McClune to also score.

In the third, Weisman singled and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Justice. McClune was then hit by a pitch for the first of two occasions in the game, and junior Hilary Lyons reached on a fielder's choice after West Liberty tried for an out at third base and was unsuccessful.

With the bases now loaded, SU would proceed to plate three runs without putting a ball in play. Junior Rachel Shumway walked, senior Jenn Deardorff was hit by a pitch and senior Kiersten Darhower walked – making the score 6-0 in favor of the Raiders.

West Liberty (5-12) was held without a hit through the first four innings but did manage a run in the fourth inning after a leadoff walk eventually made its way around the bases and scored on a foul out behind first base in which the runner successfully tagged up from third. The Hilltoppers added a second run in the fifth on a RBI-single by Irene Fadul – their first hit of the game.

Sophomore Makenzie Lynn yielded just the one run and one hit through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Fellow sophomore Liz Parkins entered a bases-loaded situation and notched a strikeout on four pitches and induced a pop-up in front of the plate in which McClune made a diving catch to neutralize the Hilltopper scoring threat.

Lynn improved to 3-0 by allowing two runs on three hits in 5.1 innings, walking three and striking out six with one wild pitch. Parkins earned a save for getting the final five outs and helping SU escape the bases-loaded jam in the sixth.

Game 2: Shippensburg 6, Seton Hill 4

Seton Hill (1-5), coached by former SU assistant Paul O'Brien, took a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half. The Griffins got an unearned run in the first on a bloop single with two outs and another in the second on a ground-rule double. SU countered with one in the bottom of the second inning after Weisman led off with a single but ended up at third after the left fielder overran the ball – resulting in Justice driving her home in the next at-bat on a groundout.

SU took the lead in the third inning on a two-out, two run single by sophomore Jessie Trammell. The Raiders extended their advantage to 4-2 in the fourth inning with a two-out rally; freshmen Briana Giovenco and Taylor Llewellyn each hit singles before sophomore Jordie Darchicourt drove home Giovenco on a RBI-single to left field. The RBI-single was Darchicourt's first career hit.

In the fifth, Weisman hit a sacrifice fly that scored Thompson and Justice laced a ground-rule double that hopped over the right-center field fence and plated freshman pinch runner Julie Cramer.

Parkins pitched against the Griffins and came within one out of a complete game, striking out seven. Seton Hill had one more rally in it in the seventh inning, plating runs on a RBI-single and RBI-double. With the tying run at second base, Estep entered in relief and induced a foul-out to Llewellyn behind the plate to end the game.

Thompson, Trammell and Llewellyn each had two hits in the game. Eight of the nine SU starters had at least one hit against Seton Hill pitching.

Game 3: Shippensburg 14, Edinboro 0 (5)

Shippensburg scored early and often against the Fighting Scots (0-3) – a squad SU defeated twice last season in walk-off fashion at Robb Field. On Saturday, the Raiders scored twice in each of the first three innings before erupting for eight runs in the fifth.

Weisman hit a RBI-single in the first that scored Darhower; Thompson also scored on the play after an error by the Edinboro left fielder. In the second, Lyons dropped an infield single that scored McClune and would eventually score on a single by Darhower.

The skies opened up during the second inning, resulting in a weather delay of approximately 50 minutes. In the third, McClune doubled home Weisman and Lyons again singled home McClune.

SU loaded the bases in the fifth on a single, error and fielder's choice and just kept going from there. Estep was hit by a pitch to score a run (SU's second RBI of the day on a hit batsmen) before Trammell came out of the flex spot to hit a two-run single, making the score 9-0.

After two fielder's choices cut down the lead runner at home – Parkins smoked a two-run single to right field and Weisman then launched a three-run home run well over the left-center field fence to give Shippensburg its decisive 14-0 advantage.

Estep recorded five strikeouts in her five-inning no-hitter while throwing 64 pitches.
