KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior Dylan Edgar and the Shippensburg University men's basketball team came through big in the final minutes against Kutztown on Wednesday night, as the Raiders pulled out a 70-66 road victory from KU's Keystone Arena in a battle of two teams jockeying for a playoff spot in the PSAC East.

The Raiders (5-15, 3-13 PSAC) avenged a five-point December home loss to the Golden Bears (5-17, 4-12) and pull closer to Bloomsburg and Mansfield in the race for the final playoff spot in the PSAC East.

Edgar shot 6-of-12 from the field for 17 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Sam Pygatt, meanwhile, had a career performance with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting in addition to six rebounds.

Redshirt-freshman Tyhiem Perrin again tied his career high with 12 points on a 5-of-6 night from the floor to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore Reggie Charles added 13 points, four rebounds and a game-high seven assists while freshman Tony Ellis contributed five points, seven rebounds and three assists.

As a team, Shippensburg shot exactly 50 percent from the field on 24-of-48 shooting, including 5-of-12 from three-point range. Defensively, SU held reigning PSAC East Player of the Week Micah Fraction to just 2-of-12 shooting as the Golden Bears shot just 20-of-55 (36 percent) overall.

Shippensburg used a 13-2 run spanning just over four minutes that gave the Raiders a seven-point lead, up 21-14, just past the midway point of the first half. An 11-3 Kutztown run later in the half gave KU a 30-29 lead, but Shippensburg answered with four straight points, and Charles finished out the first-half scoring with an and-one three-point play with 35 seconds remaining that gave SU a 36-32 lead at the break.

The two teams battled back and forth for the entirety of the second half, and with Shippensburg down by two with just over five minutes left, Edgar made back-to-back buckets to put SU up by two, 63-61, with 3:50 on the clock. With SU again down two with 2:31 remaining, Charles and Edgar both made two free throws on back-to-back possessions, with Edgar's two freebies giving SU the lead for good.

After a pair of turnovers were exchanged, Pygatt drew a foul and made two free throws with 17 seconds left to give the Raiders a four-point lead at 69-65. Another Edgar free throw with five seconds left put SU up by five and cemented the victory.

The Raiders finish off their three-game road stint on Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. matchup at Mansfield.
