SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team got 75 points from its starters on Sunday afternoon and never trailed in an 81-70 victory over CIAA opponent Bowie State inside Heiges Field House.
With the game at tied at 10-10, the Raiders went on a 15-1 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 25-11. The Lady Bulldogs pulled within five with 2:52 left in the second half, but solid free-throw shooting and rebounding allowed the Raiders to close it out.
Shippensburg (5-1, 2-0 PSAC East) got to the free-throw line a season high 45 times and converted on 32 attempts including 22-of-28 (79 percent) in the second half. Bowie State (3-1) was just 5-of-16 at the charity stripe.
Sophomore
Stephanie Knauer led SU in points (20) and rebounds (15). Her 15 rebounds were a season high and the third most in a single game in her career. She has recorded at least 20 points in five of the first six games this season.
Three other Raiders scored in double figures including 19 points for freshman
Lauren Gold which matches a career high. Senior
Sarah Strybuc scored 16 points and sophomore
Caitlyn Deeter added 10. Strybuc added seven assists and Gold recorded five.
Bowie State was paced offensively by Ashley Castle, who led all scorers with 27 points on 12-of-20 shooting.
SU hosts division rival Bloomsburg next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Heiges Field House.
