SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 22 Shippensburg University women's soccer team travels to Edinboro on Tuesday afternoon for a 1 p.m. PSAC Quarterfinal contest from the Fighting Scots's Sox Harrison Stadium in a matchup between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds in the conference tournament.
The Raiders (11-5-1) and Edinboro (12-5-1) each finished with a 10-5-1 PSAC record for 31 conference points but the Fighting Scots earned the rights to host as the higher seed by virtue of their 3-0 home victory over SU in the second game of the season on Sept. 7. That loss was SU's most lopsided this season.
The winner will advance to the PSAC Semifinals on Friday against the winner of Tuesday's 3 p.m. quarterfinal matchup between top-seeded California (Pa.) and No. 8 seed Mercyhurst. The highest remaining seed remaining in the tournament will host the semifinals and championship game on Friday and Saturday.
This season marks Shippensburg's fourth trip to the PSAC Tournament and its first since 2010 when it lost in the quarterfinals to West Chester.
Edinboro leads the all-time series 10-7-1 and has won five in a row against the Raiders. SU's last victory vs. Edinboro came on Oct. 3, 2008, in a 2-0 home victory.
SU has had an historic 2013 season as it claimed its first-ever undefeated regular-season home mark with a program-record eight home wins. Last week, the Raiders claimed their first national ranking in more than seven years as their No. 22-ranking is just the fifth in program history.
The Raiders have allowed a program-fewest 16 goals this season as their 0.94 goals-against average ranks fifth in the PSAC. SU has had a flare for the dramatic as well, winning four of its five overtime games this season with the fifth a 1-1 tie to No. 14 Slippery Rock in the regular-season finale on Saturday. The Raiders have not suffered back-to-back losses this season – the first time they've achieved that feat in program history.
