SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team won five decisions Tuesday evening in its home opener but had to forfeit two weight classes and dropped a PSAC dual meet decision to rival Millersville, 22-15 inside Heiges Field House.

SU took three of the first four weight classes, with junior Dave Calambas opening the meet with an 8-3 decision over Millersville's Austin Camacci. Calambas had two first-period takedowns and achieved reversals in each of the final two periods.

At 141 pounds, senior Simon Rice managed an escape in overtime and prevented David "Wink" Charles from doing so on his turn at the bottom to achieve a 5-4 decision. The match was scoreless through the first two periods, as Rice accrued two minutes of riding time in the second period. The advantage was pivotal, as a takedown and near fall by Charles put him up 4-0 before Rice achieved a reversal and was awarded another point after stalling was called.

Freshman Kyle Barnes shutout Shane Miller at 149 pounds, 5-0. Barnes notched a late takedown in the opening period, got a point for his opponent stalling in the second and used an escape and a riding time advantage to post the final margin.

Freshman Evan Ramos managed a takedown with seven seconds left in regulation to notch a 3-1 decision at 197 pounds over Millersville's Aram Moffitt. At heavyweight, senior Jacob Nale posted a convincing 6-1 decision over Kyle Wolfe on the strength of takedowns in the first and third periods.

Shippensburg returns to action December 7 when it heads to Edinboro for the PSAC Championships.
