South Region champion Raiders (19-1) to play North Region champion Pioneers (21-0) at 1:15 p.m. Sunday from L.R. Hill Complex at Old Dominion University

11/24/2013 9:02:00 AM

NORFOLK, Va. -- The South Region champion and No. 1 seed Shippensburg University field hockey team faces off against North Region and No. 1 seed LIU Post on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. for the 2013 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship from L.R. Hill Complex on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

A victory would give the Raiders (19-1) their second national championship in program history (an AIAW title in 1979) and give the school its first-ever NCAA team championship in any sport (and second national team championship in any sport, joining 1979 field hockey).

The game will be streamed live online at ncaa.com/liveschedule (link above). Live stats will also be available via ncaa.com (link above).

All-session tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students/children. Single-game rates are $20 for adults, $15 for students/children with a $10 rate listed for "groups."

Tickets can be bought through ncaa.com/tickets, at the ODU box office at the Constant Center or at the ticket window. The GPS address for the game is L.R. Hill Sports Complex, 4251 Powhatan Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23529.

On Friday, Shippensburg defeated South No. 2 seed Millersville (19-3), 3-1, in the second of two NCAA Semifinals from the USA Field Hockey Training Center at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va.

Senior Lauren Taylor opened up the scoring nearly 16 minutes in while junior Ari Saytar added a goal off a penalty corner midway through the second half with assists by senior Taylor Bender and junior Lucy Kauffman. SU closed out the scoring when senior Bre White knifed through the Marauder defense for the game-clinching goal and a 3-1 lead with just over seven minutes left.

The undefeated Pioneers (21-0) defeated North No. 3 seed Merrimack (14-6), 1-0, in Friday's first NCAA Semifinal with a late goal from Keliann Margiotta with 5:45 left in regulation

Series History: Raiders and Pioneers

• The Raiders were No. 1 in the NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll for the entirety of the 2013 regular season while the Pioneers were the only D-II team to finish the regular season undefeated.

• The two teams are very familiar with each other in recent years as LIU Post was a member of the PSAC from 2008-2012 before moving to the Northeast-10 prior to this season

• The Raiders last played the Pioneers on Sept. 14, 2012, last season, when they took a 3-2 road victory in Brookville, N.Y. In that game, then-sophomore Tori Ricker sent home the game-winner with less than seven minutes left off an assist from Kauffman. Saytar and Bender also scored.

• SU has not lost to the Pioneers in the last decade, winning nine straight since the two teams began playing every year in 2005.

• While the Raiders have won every contest during that span, there have been several close games, including last year's 3-2 contest, a 2-1 final in 2010, a 3-2 overtime triumph in 2009, a 2-1 decision in the 2007 regular-season finale and a 3-2 final in 2006.

• In 2011, however, SU defeated Post by a 10-2 margin in two games (6-1 and 4-1 finals).

Shippensburg's History in the National Playoffs

• Shippensburg is making its 10th appearance in the NCAA playoffs, all under 15th-year head coach Bertie Landes. With the exception of the 2007 season, the Raiders have reached the national tournament every year since 2003 – a run of 10 appearances out of the past 11 seasons.

• In 2010, SU advanced to its first-ever NCAA Championship Game, where it fell 1-0 to UMass-Lowell. Last season, the Raiders fell in the NCAA Semifinals in a 3-2 thriller to the Golden Rams.

• SU's win on Friday snapped its three-game losing streak in the NCAA Tournament as its last victory had come during the 2010 tournament when it defeated Bloomsburg 1-0 in the semifinals.

• SU's lone national championship came in 1979 when it won the AIAW (Assocation for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) Division II Field Hockey Tournament – the only team in school history to win a national championship in any sport.

Scouting the Raiders

• Offensively, SU is spearheaded by three double-digit goal-scorers – senior Lauren Taylor (a team-high 16 goals), senior Bre White (14) and Jett (11) – as well as senior Taylor Bender with nine.

• White leads the team with 11 assists and 39 points while Jett has caged five game-winning goals. Defensively, freshman Taylor Fisher leads the team with seven defensive saves while Neely sports a 1.16 goals-against avg.

• Eight Raiders earned All-PSAC recognition this season, including White and senior Katie Shoop earning First Team honors. Taylor, Neely, Jett, Kauffman, Saytar and senior Brittany Jett also earned All-PSAC laurels.
