Abe Massaley each scored 13 points on Wednesday night but the Shippensburg University men's basketball team dropped its PSAC Eastern Division Opener to Lock Haven, 78-61 from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (0-3, 0-1 PSAC East) shot just 35 percent from the field while Lock Haven (2-1, 1-0 PSAC East) got to the free-throw line 42 times and made 31 of its attempts. SU was just 12-of-25 at the free-throw line but did make seven three-pointers on the evening.
Redshirt-freshman center
Marcus Williams earned his first career start, played a team-high 35 minutes and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore
Tony Ellis hauled in 10 rebounds for the third time in his career and chipped in with six points.
Sophomore guard
Jay Hardy earned his first start of the year and the third of his career, finishing with seven points and two assists.
The Raider rotation was plagued by foul trouble all evening long, with Massaley and Lococo combining for just 12 minutes in the first half. Sophomore
Derek Boone was the beneficiary and logged a career-high 11 minutes in the opening frame, contributing two points and an assist while drawing two charges.
Also off the bench, junior
Sam Pygatt and freshman
Oliver Stroh scored six points. Stroh added five rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes.
Lock Haven got a game-high 23 points from Wali Hepburn. Four Bald Eagles finished in double figures, including 16 from Nate Walters and 11 off the bench from Julian Bond.
Shippensburg will be on the road Saturday for a 3 p.m. PSAC East matchup at Cheyney from Cope Hall.
