SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team won five events Saturday afternoon inside Donald N. Miller Pool but came up short on the team score in a dual meet against conference for IUP, falling 155.5 – 105.5.

For the second straight day, senior Julie Brown and sophomore Carolyn Meier won multiple events. Brown won the 50- (24.36) and 100-yard freestyle (54.29), satisfying the PSAC qualifying standard in both events, while Meier was victorious in the 200- (1:57.31) and 500-yard freestyle (5:23.98). Meier's times in the 200 and the 50 (25.13) were PSAC cuts. Brown finished second to Meier in the 200 with a PSAC cut.

Senior Colleen Stiles was also a victor for the Raiders, as her 200-yard backstroke time of 2:13.56 bested all competitors and satisfied the PSAC standard. Junior Jess Trgovic tied for second in the race. Stiles also was a runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke.

Sophomore Rikki Sargent achieved two PSAC cuts, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.68) and third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.09).

Freshman Kaytee Garcia achieved a runner-up finish, placing second in the 1.000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:15.67. SU's 200-yard freestyle relay wrapped up the day as the quartet of Brown, Meier, Sargent and freshman Abbey O'Neal placed second in 1:40.41.

Shippensburg will taper over the next two-plus weeks in advance of its all-important weekend at George Mason. The Patriot Invitational will be held Nov. 21-23, with 10 a.m. preliminary and 6 p.m. evening finals sessions each day.
