Sarah Strybuc led all scorers Friday night with 20 points and freshman
Morgan Griffith added her second-straight double-double, but the Shippensburg University women's basketball team dropped a 72-61 decision to Goldey-Beacom in the 2013 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic.
Shippensburg (1-1) shot 47 percent from the field in the second half but could not overcome a slow start, as Goldey-Beacom (2-2) raced out to a 37-23 halftime lead. SU got within seven points of the lead at the 14:43 mark of the final frame but could not get any closer.
Strybuc shot 9-of-17 from the field and added five assists. Griffith was 5-of-9 from the field and finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Caitlyn Deeter also posted double figures with 11 points, while sophomore
Stephanie Knauer had seven points and six rebounds.
Freshman guard
Lauren Gold had another solid effort off the bench, contributing eight points and four assists. Gold was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line. Unlike SU's season opener against Shepherd in which the two teams combined for 53 free throws, Friday night's game had a total of just 27 free throws between the Raiders and the Lightning.
Shippensburg hosts NYIT at 6 p.m. Saturday in the seventh game of the 2013 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic.
