A go-ahead goal from senior Bre White with nine minutes remaining on Wednesday afternoon lifted the top-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team to a 2-1 PSAC win at rival and No. 3-ranked West Chester from Vonnie Gros Field.

The victory gives the Raiders (11-0, 4-0 PSAC) two wins this season over the two-time defending NCAA champion Golden Rams (7-3, 3-1) as SU is now 4-0 in regular-season matchups against the defending PSAC champions since they reclassified from Division I prior to the 2011 season.

White's 12th career game-winner came with 9:05 left on the clock as she beat a defender at the top of the circle before facing charging WCU goalkeeper Audree Bonavita. White chipped the shot in over Bonavita and into the open cage to break the 1-1 tie.

The two NCAA semifinalists from last season played a nearly even game, with each team taking nine shots with six on goal. The Golden Rams had a 10-4 lead in penalty corners, however, including one with less than a half-minute left in which Kelsi Lykens's shot was blocked with 21 seconds left to preserve the Shippensburg win.

Senior Lauren Taylor broke the scoreless tie 16 minutes in when she dove to recover her own saved shot and poked it into the cage for a 1-0 Raider lead. The score remained 1-0 for the next 27 minutes of game action before Lykens scored off a corner to tie the game nearly nine minutes into the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Carenna Neely turned away five shots on the afternoon while Taylor took a team-high four shots.

The win, combined with No. 2 Millersville's 4-0 defeat of Mercyhurst also on Wednesday, sets up an undefeated clash between the top two teams in the country on Saturday afternoon as the Raiders host the Marauders at 1 p.m. in the annual "Play Pink" game from Robb Sports Complex.

The contest will be held in support of breast cancer awareness and fans attending are encouraged to wear pink clothing. All donations raised during the game will be given to the Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance.
