Box Score

The Shippensburg University men's soccer team dropped an important PSAC road decision on Tuesday afternoon, as host West Chester converted a corner kick in the fourth minute of overtime into a golden goal that defeated the Raiders, 1-0, from the Golden Rams's South Campus Field.

Shippensburg (4-5-1, 1-3 PSAC) dropped its third 1-0 decision of the season and second in PSAC play despite littering the Golden Ram net with seven shots on goal and recording an overall shots advantage of 18-14 and corners advantage of 8-5.

West Chester (4-3-2, 4-1-1 PSAC) temporarily vaulted to the top of the PSAC standings pending the results for both first-place Mercyhurst and second-place Seton Hill, each of whom were still in action at the match's end. Tommy Ryan scored for the hosts off a corner kick sent to the near elbow of the penalty area by Roberto Silva.

Senior goalkeeper Clay Sale made a season-high nine saves in the loss. The feisty match included 31 fouls and five yellow cards – four of which were issued to Raiders.

The Raiders nearly had a goal in regulation if not for the miraculous efforts of Golden Ram defender Cameron Scott. SU redshirt-junior forward Derrick Roy fired a shot toward the cage in the 69th minute, but Scott was able to head the ball away on the goal line for a team save.

Shippensburg returns home Saturday to host PSAC rival East Stroudsburg at 6:30 p.m. from David See Field. The men's soccer team will be collecting donations to Johns Hopkins University cancer research at the game as a part of its "Red Card Cancer" promotion. Wristbands will be available for $3 and water bottles can be purchased for $5.
