SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Redshirt-junior Kate Zech scored a golden goal with 13.9 seconds remaining in the second overtime Wednesday night to give the Shippensburg University women's soccer team a critical 1-0 conference victory over Millersville from David See Field.

The Raiders (6-3, 5-3 PSAC) moved into a tie for fifth place in the conference standings with the victory and are just three points behind a first-place triumvirate of California (Pa.), Gannon and Kutztown. Millersville (5-3-1, 4-3-1) now sits in seventh place.

SU also matched its win total of a season ago with Wednesday night's victory.

"They had a couple of really good chances, and we had a couple too," head coach Rob Fulton said after the game. "We got the one that counted."

Zech's goal came on a last-ditch rush into the box by freshman Casey Rightmyer. After a carom, Zech advanced toward the goal and got to the loose ball. She maneuvered around two Marauder defenders that crashed into each other in an effort to play the ball out, and put a deft touch on the ball to send it past the oncoming goalkeeper and into the left side of the net.

It is Zech's fifth career game-winning goal and second this season. Four of her five career game-winners have come in 1-0 decisions.

Shippensburg is the first team to hold Millersville off the scoreboard this season. Five of SU's six victories this season have been by shutout, including four 1-0 victories.

Senior Shelbie Rackley made five saves to record her fifth shutout of the season and the 11th solo shutout of her career. Her most pivotal stop came just 21 seconds into the second overtime when she elevated to handle a shot by former high-school teammate Savannah Hall.

The match finished about as evenly as it can get from a statistical standpoint, with both teams totaling 15 shots before Zech's game-winner. The two squads even matched shot totals through the first three frames until the decisive tally. MU goalkeeper Olivia Webber also made five saves.

Shippensburg travels to West Chester on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Golden Rams.
